Within the framework of the First Swiss Contribution (implemented from 2017 to 2024), a total of 52 projects were funded through two calls for project proposals, with a combined value exceeding CHF 7.48 million. Investments were made in projects aimed at strengthening the competencies of children and young people in the field of sustainable development and raising awareness about sustainability, while building partnerships between civil society organisations, schools, and local communities.
Partnerships between Croatian and Swiss institutions were also encouraged in order to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience, improve quality of life, and further advance sustainable development in municipalities, cities, and counties across Croatia.
The strong interest in such programmes and projects is reflected in the participation of 9,855 primary and secondary school students in project activities. Additionally, 182 non-formal education programmes for sustainable development were implemented, resulting in 62 good practice models for achieving Sustainable Development Goals – significantly exceeding the planned indicators of the First Contribution.
Work on the objectives established under the First Swiss Contribution continues through the Civic Engagement Programme, one of the four components of the Second Swiss Contribution. More than CHF 7.6 million has been allocated for four calls addressing education for sustainable development, volunteering, micro-projects, and service-learning.
The Programme will fund activities selected through calls for proposals and provide management support to civil society organisations. Special attention will be given to less developed areas, contributing to balanced socio-economic growth in the Republic of Croatia.
